Why Homeowners Choose It

Deck Staining Benefits

UV Protection

Stops the bleaching that turns deck wood gray.

Seals Out Moisture

Water beads off instead of soaking in.

Prevents Splinters

Sealed wood doesn't splinter underfoot.

Rich, Even Color

Pulls warm tones back out of weathered boards.

The Pender Pro Difference

Prep Is the Whole Job

Spraying stain on a dirty deck peels within a year. We clean the boards thoroughly (bleach wash or pressure wash depending on condition), sand if needed, and let the wood fully dry before applying Wood Defender stain — that's why our finish bonds and lasts in the CSRA climate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Deck Staining — Common Questions

How often should I stain my deck?
Every 2–4 years for most decks in our climate. A deck in full sun fades faster than one with shade. The biggest signal it's time: water no longer beads on the surface.
Can you stain a deck that has never been stained?
Yes — new untreated decks accept stain best. We typically wait about 30 days for pressure-treated lumber to fully dry before staining; cedar can usually be stained within days of install.
What stain do you use?
We use Wood Defender — a contractor-grade stain and seal made by Standard Paints. It's waterproof, mildew-resistant, and built for Southern heat. You choose the finish (transparent, semi-transparent, or solid) and color on the free quote.
Transparent or semi-transparent — which is right for my deck?
Transparent shows the most natural wood grain and carries a 2-year guarantee. Semi-transparent has richer color, still shows grain, and carries a 3-year guarantee. We'll walk you through samples on-site.
Do you sand decks before staining?
Only when needed — splintered, rough, or peeling-paint decks get sanded to a clean surface first. Most deck staining is just a thorough clean and dry. We'll tell you which yours needs.
